How Could I Have Known
We worked in the same building for 5 years
Fate brought us bumping into each other after work for a few beers
We forgot everyone else there with us that night
Talking until last call, ‘till the bartender turned off the light
If we both weren’t still hurting from our pasts
We might have recognized the throw fate had cast
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
We’ve been close friends all these years
Helped each other through all the tears
I’ve looked into your eyes so many times
Blind to all the signs
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
I’ll never forget that night
You looked so good in candlelight
Out with all our friends in tow
Laughin’, drinkin’, watchin’ the show
I looked across the table at you
And like a lightening flash I knew
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
We’ve been close friends all these years
Helped each other through all the tears
I’ve looked into your eyes so many times
Blind to all the signs
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
Funny how we were the only ones surprised
That our future belonged together side by side
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
We’ve been close friends all these years
Helped each other through all the tears
I’ve looked into your eyes so many times
Blind to all the signs
How could I have known you for so long
And not have known it’s with you I belong
